Midnight Month Halloween Contest
It's October and that means Halloween. And since Halloween spookiness and Midnight Menagerie have a lot in common, October is unofficially Midnight Month. To celebrate I'm going to be hosting a fan art contest. This year's theme is Toothache. Like what you get if you have too much Halloween candy and don't brush your teeth. So it's your mission to create a piece of art that incorporates at least one of the characters of Midnight Menagerie, the idea of a toothache and something to do with Halloween. It could be silly, it could be creepy, but it has to incorporate all three things! If you enter, you get the chance to win free art from me and br

10 ways to become more productive
Dear, deviantart fellow artists
It's difficult to feel motivated and stay focused on our goals all the time. But how to achieve what we want, how to not let procrastination stand in our way?
Here are some of my thoughts about the topic and I hope that they might be helpful.
1. Set goals
Think about your ultimate goal - what is that matters to you the most, what would make you incredibly happy and excited. Write that down and work your way through to it. It will be the reason, the reminder for you to look forward in those times, when you'll feel less motivated.
Try to write also weekly, monthly and yearly goals - be reasonable and realis
A few weeks back while thinking about this journal, I came across a forum for paid photojournalism jobs. I left it some time later in complete shock. There I found posting after posting about jobs paying nothing, next to nothing, or promising payment and then paychecks never arriving in the mail. I sat there, closed the laptop lid, and thought for a long while.
I know I’m fortunate to be paid for what I do. A big part of this is because I specialize in something very few photographers are doing at a professional level. But what most people don’t realize is that even at this level a large percentage of my workload involves pay
We all joined this site, more or less for this reason, to get feedback on our art. The whole point of submitting art online is for people to see it and hear what they think about it.
Now there are a lot of deviants out there who get little to no feedback and as a result ask the people who faved their art to comment or go to random people on dA and ask for them to look at their art or comment in the hopes that the person will be kind enough to return the favor.
A message to the people who do that, you're doing it all wrong.
Sure, if you ask 20 people who faved your drawing what they thought about it, you might get 1 or 2 answers, but in r
CSS and DeviantART
So you want to start creating your own journal skins? Learning CSS can be somewhat time consuming, but there are plenty of awesome resources to help you.
Remember, learning CSS and webdesign can land you a job in the future! Not only that, but coding Cascading Style Sheets is actually a lot of fun. It's awesome to see others using your Journal/ Gallery skins.

One thing that makes deviantART awesome is that there are over 26 million active users! This means a bunch of others will always be willing to learn with you. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, or

PE: Learning to paint with deviantArt
A lot of people want to learn to draw and paint better but they just don't know where to start. You don't need an expensive art course to learn and progress, sometimes the answers are not far away. On DeviantArt, artists not only share their artworks but many of them are willing to share their working secrets, they create tutorials and FAQ journals or simply answer to your notes if you ask them. When you know what you want to improve, searching for a good tip gets even easier.

The 50 Foot / 50 Hand Challenge! CLOSED! by AdorkaStock, journal
The 50 Foot / 50 Hand Challenge! CLOSED!
THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED! But feel free to do it just for fun/improvement!
This was a drawing challenge from `AdorkaStock (https://www.deviantart.com/adorkastock) and :iconmostlyguystock:!
Hands and feet are pretty hard to draw. Lots of artists struggle with them! Even when other things come naturally, hands and feet can still be quite a problem. The best way to get better at drawing hands and feet is to study them!
The Challenge: Sketch or draw 50 feet AND 50 hands from reference photos or life.
Deadline: The deadline has passed for this challenge, but you can still participate and make yourself a better artist!
You can post them as one giant post, in groups, one at a
How to: Make thumbs big in features? by BitterBeanJuicer, journal
How to: Make thumbs big in features?
I get this asked a lot!
Back when they introduced sta.sh, I didn't really use it. Because it seemed hard to get used to. I always wrote my articles in the old way.
Then I toyed with it a little and noticed that is is something really awesome!
Not to mention that the only way to make articles and journals is through Sta.sh Writer.
So I assume not so many if you know that there is a way to make thumbs big!
That is actually pretty easy. All you have to do is add big in front of a thumb code!
For example:
: thumb159252268 :
This is the "regular" size
:thumb159252268:
: bigthumb159252268 :
This is the big size
Of course: without the spaces b
